Business, community leaders to discuss wind energy

Kansas business and community leaders will meet in Kingman on Thursday to discuss the costs and benefits of wind energy.

The meeting of the Energy Roundtable will be the second in a series of meetings planned across the state to discuss Kansas? renewable-energy future.

The keynote speakers for Thursday?s meeting will be Luke Hagedorn and Scott W. White.

Hagedorn is an associate with the energy practice group of Polsinelli Shughart, a Hutchinson law firm; White is founder of the Kansas Energy Information Network, a private-sector organization promoting energy efficiency.

In November, KEIN and Polsinelli Shughart released a report titled ?The Economic Benefits of Wind Energy,? which will be the topic of Hagedorn and White?s speech.

In addition, the meeting will feature a presentation by the Wind Energy Coalition on issues before the Legislature and officials from Kingman, Barber, Sumner and Harper counties will discuss economic effects of wind power in their areas.

The meeting is sponsored by the Climate & Energy Project, a nonprofit coalition of business, academic and environmental groups promoting energy efficiency and increased use of renewable resources.

Thursday?s meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Livingston Community Center, 1830 N. Main, in Kingman. Admission is free and lunch will be served.
