Snow, icy roads in parts of Western Washington

Parts of Western Washington, mainly north of Seattle, woke up to a bit of snow and some icy roads Thursday. The conditions led to several collisions and some school schedule changes.

The Washington State Department of Transportation dispatched sanding trucks to treat trouble spots.

KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott forecasts mixed rain and wet snow showers Thursday mainly north of Everett, then drifting southward through the Puget Sound area during the day turning more to rain showers during the day. Latest forecast

Any accumulations of wet snow will be spotty and less than an inch mainly on hills several miles away from Puget Sound, especially the northern Kitsap Peninsula and Northeast Olympic Peninsula. Highs will be in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.

The mountains will see snow showers with a trace to four inches of accumulation. It will be heaviest north of Stevens Pass, with snow level at or above 300-to-400 feet. Pass highs will be in the mid-to-upper 20's.

The coast can expect rain or mixed snow and rain showers with highs in the low 40's.
