Spring Begins Today..Huh? : Ideas for Women Home and Family Blog

?

?

That?s right, Spring begins today not tomorrow the 21st which is when it normally begins. It just doesn?t seem right does it? Well there are all sorts of?scientific?and technical reasons for this that I could give you. The basic reasons are first and foremost a year is not actually an even number of days. Our calendar is actually adjusted in an attempt to get as close as possible to the tropical year.

A tropical year is the amount of time it actually takes the Earth to orbit the sun. Another reason is the pull of gravity affects where the Earth is in orbit and a few other things. The current seasonal lengths are:

  • Winter:88.99 days
  • Spring: ?92.76 days
  • Summer: ?93.65 days
  • Autumn: ?89.84 days

These of course are for the?Northern?Hemisphere. As you can see that Spring is not very long and is actually getting shorten by about 1 minute each year while Summer is getting longer. As if you needed me to tell you that. The change is something we can clearer see int he weather each year. summers are much hotter now than in years past. ?So what should you do now that Spring has stared?

Take you children outside and enjoy the warmer weather!
